CloudFinOpsKit vs CloudZero
CloudZero and CloudFinOpsKit both help you understand and reduce cloud and AI spend, but they're built for different situations. CloudZero is a continuously running cost-intelligence platform. CloudFinOpsKit is a read-only assessment you run yourself, plus an optional agent that explains the results. Here's how they differ, and when CloudZero is the better choice.
How we wrote this. We make CloudFinOpsKit, so read this as a vendor's comparison. Everything about CloudZero comes from its website and pricing page as they read on 21 October 2026. We haven't used CloudZero hands-on, and we don't guess at its prices. If something here is out of date, tell us through Ask Jeff on our homepage and we'll correct it.
At a glance
| CloudFinOpsKit | CloudZero | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A read-only assessment you run, producing a priced savings report; plus the FinOps Agent to question it | A cost-intelligence platform; describes itself as "The AI ROI Company" |
| Pricing | Published: from $40 one-time; FinOps Agent $15/mo or $144/yr; Agency (consultants) $79/mo | Custom quote ("Request a custom price quote"); one subscription with all capabilities included |
| Getting started | Buy, download, run. About 10 minutes to a report. No sales call | Contact sales for a quote; CloudZero says you can connect "in minutes" |
| How it runs | The assessment runs on your machine with read-only access, and you re-run it when you want a fresh view | Always on: continuous ingestion, hourly cost granularity |
| Clouds | Azure, AWS, Google Cloud | AWS, Azure, Google Cloud |
| AI spend | AI billed through your cloud: Azure OpenAI and AI Foundry, Bedrock and SageMaker, Vertex AI. Per-deployment token cost and 12 waste checks | Lists direct integrations including Anthropic, OpenAI and Cursor, plus an "AI Hub" |
| Other data sources | Cloud billing and monitoring APIs only | Lists 30+ integrations, including Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databricks and Datadog |
| Users and dashboards | A report you share (HTML, CSV, JSON); white-label on Agency | Unlimited users, dimensions and dashboards |
Choose CloudZero if…
- You need cost data all the time, not monthly. Hourly granularity and continuous anomaly detection are what a platform is for.
- A lot of your AI spend goes straight to OpenAI or Anthropic. CloudFinOpsKit only sees AI billed through Azure, AWS or Google Cloud.
- You want to allocate cost across many sources (Kubernetes, Snowflake, Datadog, SaaS) into one unit-economics model.
- You have a FinOps or platform team to own the platform and the budget for a custom-quoted subscription.
Choose CloudFinOpsKit if…
- You want an answer on your real bill this week, without a sales process or a platform rollout.
- You don't have a FinOps team. The report prioritises fixes, prices each one from your actual billed cost, and the FinOps Agent explains them.
- Your AI runs on Azure OpenAI, Bedrock or Vertex, and you want per-deployment token cost plus specific waste findings (zombie deployments, idle provisioned capacity, output and context bloat, cold prompt caches).
- You run cost reviews for clients. The Agency plan gives you white-label reports for unlimited clients at a flat price.
- You'd rather not connect a third-party platform to your billing. The assessment runs read-only on your own machine.
Can you use both?
Yes. Some teams run a CloudFinOpsKit assessment first, to size the opportunity and build the case, then decide whether a continuous platform is worth it. The assessment is also a cheap second opinion on what a platform reports.
Try it on your real bill. Get the assessment (from $40, 14-day money-back guarantee), or start free with the AI Token Cost Checklist or the cloud cost-review checklist.
FAQ
Is CloudFinOpsKit a CloudZero alternative?
For some teams. If you need always-on, hourly cost allocation across many data sources, CloudZero is the better fit. If you need a credible answer on your real bill without a sales process or a platform rollout, CloudFinOpsKit is.
Does CloudFinOpsKit track OpenAI and Anthropic API spend?
Not directly. It measures AI spend billed through your cloud: Azure OpenAI and AI Foundry, Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker, and Google Vertex AI. If most of your AI spend goes straight to those APIs, that's a real gap to weigh.
