CloudFinOpsKit vs Cloudability
IBM Cloudability (formerly Apptio Cloudability) is one of the established enterprise FinOps platforms. CloudFinOpsKit is a read-only assessment you run yourself, plus an optional agent that explains the results. They solve overlapping problems at very different scales and prices. Here's the honest comparison, including when Cloudability is the right call.
How we wrote this. We make CloudFinOpsKit, so read this as a vendor's comparison. Cloudability's pricing comes from IBM's own AWS Marketplace listing, read on 21 October 2026. Private quotes can differ. We haven't used Cloudability hands-on. If something here is out of date, tell us through Ask Jeff on our homepage and we'll correct it.

What the price difference means in practice
At the listing's entry band, $30,000 a year covers up to $1M of annual cloud spend, about 3% at the top of that band. For a company spending $50,000 a month ($600,000 a year), that's the same $30,000 a year, or about 5% of the cloud bill. The CloudFinOpsKit FinOps Agent is $144 a year. That gap is the whole point: mid-size companies often can't justify a platform before they know what's recoverable. An assessment answers that question first.
Choose Cloudability if…
- You run a large, multi-account estate and need continuous monitoring, chargeback and governance, not a periodic review.
- You have a FinOps team to own a platform, and procurement is comfortable with a 12-month contract.
- You're already invested in IBM or Apptio for IT financial management and want cloud cost in the same place.
Choose CloudFinOpsKit if…
- Your cloud spend is below the scale where a five-figure annual platform pays for itself.
- You want to know what's recoverable before committing to a platform, or want a second opinion on one you already have.
- You don't have a FinOps team. The report prioritises fixes, prices each from your actual billed cost, and the FinOps Agent explains them.
- Your AI runs on Azure OpenAI, Bedrock or Vertex and you want per-deployment token findings.
- You run cost reviews for clients: white-label Agency reports, unlimited clients, flat price.
Size the opportunity first. Run the assessment on your real bill (from $40, 14-day money-back guarantee), or start free with the cloud cost-review checklist.
FAQ
Is CloudFinOpsKit a Cloudability alternative?
For mid-size teams, often yes. Cloudability is an enterprise platform on 12-month contracts priced by the cloud spend it manages; IBM's AWS Marketplace listing starts at $30,000 a year for up to $1 million of managed spend. CloudFinOpsKit is a read-only assessment from $40 one-time, or $15 a month for the FinOps Agent. If you need continuous chargeback and governance across a large estate, Cloudability is the better fit.
How much does Cloudability cost?
IBM does not publish a general price list. Its AWS Marketplace listing (checked 21 October 2026) shows 12-month contracts of $30,000 for up to $1M of managed annual cloud spend, $76,680 for up to $3M and $132,480 for up to $6M, with overage charges above the band. Private quotes can differ.
